FAY COMPTON IN “VICTORIA REGINA”
Another large and enthusiastic audience applauded the presentation by Miss Fay Compton and her company of Laurence Hausman's brilliant play, "Victoria Regina,” at the New Opera House last night. In the ten historical scenes presented, incidents which have a pronounced bearing on the building of the British Empire are enacted. Ample scope is given Miss Compton for her unusual interpretative qualities as Queen Victoria, and, as the young Queen, to the final scene as the “Widow of Windsor. ' the character of the great Queen is sustained remarkably. By Bruno Barnabe, who portrays the role of .the Prince Consort. Miss Compton is ably snpp.orted. A-matinee of “Victoria Regina” will be given this afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock. Special concessions are announced for children. The season will conclude next Thursday night, and the company will leave for Christchurch the following evening. On Easter Saturday. April 15. t)>e company will open a return season in Wellington by presenting for one week Gerald Savory's delightful comedy. “George and Margaret.”
