REPRESENTATION ON HOSPITAL BOARD

1 Makara Council Opinion DEPUTATION FROM TITAHI BAY / “The incidence of representation on the Wellington Hospital Board should be according to the amount of money contributed by the local bodies concerned,” said Cr. J. Purchase at the monthly meeting of the Makara County Council in Wellington yesterday. Cr. E. Wind ley, chairman of the council, who presided, stated that, though he had attended the conference of local bodies when the hospital board’s proposals had been discussed, he was not satisfied with the ruling feeling at that meeting. Titalii Bay Deputation. Representations on behalf of Titalii Bav residents were made to the council by a deputation from the Titahi Bay Progressive Association. The members/ of the association, introduced by Cr. B. W. Bothamley, were: Messrs. W. W. Bird, G. Halliday,'E. Lynneberg, H. C. Hunter and L. U. Chaffey. <■ Cr. Bothamley, councillor for Titahl Riding, mentioned that the week-end popularity of the bay was growing rapidly. It was no uncommon sight to see 800 cars on the beach, he said. The questions raised by the deputation included general beach improvements and an enlargement of existing facilities. Road maintenance and lighting were also discussed. Councillors S. G. Luxton (Makara) and J. Purchase (Makara) drew attention to the fact that Titahi Bay was not alone in justification for its claims.. These remarks were made when the deputation had closed their address to the council, but they were ruled out of order by the chairman. The council assured the deputation that the proposals would receive consideration. 1 A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. S. Bryant was passed at the meeting. The chairman referred to the work Mr. Bryant had done for the council in past years. Electricity for South Karori„ An inquiry ag to tbe council’s policy in providing electricity for South Karori was made by Mr. J. Kirkcaldie. a resident of South Karori, who waited on the council.. He said there was some doubt among the residents as. to whether they would get the reticula-, tiou. He had received opinions from the electricity’ department of tbe Wellington City Corporation which led him to believe that Soutli Karori was outside the area included in the scheme.The council stated that South Karori was in the survey, and that reticulation would not be neglected. The resignation of Mr. J. Nerwill, sanitary inspector, because of illhealth, was accepted with regret by the council, and a motion expressing appreciation of his past services was passed.
