Labour’s, Coming Defeat

Sir, —An incident happened at Taranaki last week which has lost Labour many votes, and if it could be broadcast throughout New Zealand, it would cost Labour thousand and thousands more. A farmer became ill and went to hospital. In spite of. all efforts no help could be secured, so his wife, of middle age, and mother, aged 70, were forced to the milking-shed, to carry on the work of the farmer. At the moment, Mr. Savage, Mr. Nash and their friends, are sitting in Parliament preaching th? millennium and spending millions that someone. else will pay for. They have created a pay-roll unprecedented in the history of New Zealand, and boast of it. Large numbers of these workers are showing their deep appreciation by working less than any workers have every worked before, and thereby making sound economic conditions impossible.

Farm workers have been transferred to ?üblic workings of no real importance, and which do not bring in one penny of income to the country. All these workers work from 33 to 40 hours a week. The average farmer works from 60 to 70 hours. He is the man who brings in the main source of income to New Zealand. He is the worker (mainly) who makes it possible for the rest of the community to exist. Yet in spite of all this, under the Labour Government, when the farmer gets into a corner it*has no organisation to help him, anfi these gentlemen are content to sit in their chairs while a 70-year-old woman, does the work' that brings them their pay. If that is the best Labour can do the sooner every responsible adult realises it, the better it will be for New Zealand.—l am, etc.. WM. MORGAN. AVellington, March 9.
