Assistance To Ex-Soldiers The joint council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society is prepared to advance £l4OO free of interest to the Wellington branch to avoid interruption in the work of the Great War fund administrative committee. An offer to this effect was received at the monthly meeting of the Wellington branch. This sum will suffice uhtil the disposal of the committee’s property in Dixon Street. The sum of £44 was received by the meeting from the joint council for relief of New Zealand Expeditionary Force men and their dependants. The resignation of Sister M. A. Eaddy from the staff of the Mowai Home was received with regret. Sister Eaddy Jias been employed by the society for 15 years. Relief had been given to 95 ex-Im-perial men at a cost of £ll4/4/7 over a period of 12 months, the statement showed. An application had been made to the authorities in England for a further grant for this work. During the month four New Zealand Expeditionary Force men were assisted, at a cost of £4/6/7.
A letter was received from the secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association thanking the society for admitting a limbless New Zealand Expeditionary Force man to Mowai Home.
