Throughout his life the late Mr. Buick had been an earnest seeker after the light of knowledge, said Archdeacon Bullock in the course of an eloquent tribute.' His life could be aptly summed up in three words light, liberty and loyalty. He had been one of those who believed that a man’s education did not end until his death. Not only did he seek knowledge, but be imparted it, as was evidenced by the many valuable contributions be had made to the literature of New Zealand. He had also been a lover of liberty, a quality which was much needed in these days. His love of liberty had been exemplified in his political life and throughout his career subsequently. The third quality of loyalty Mr. Buick possessed in good measure. It was a quality he showed in his home and in his daily work.
