Petone Rugby Club Recommendation

“Once lignin we have to draw attention to the fact that the general training of members has not been in keeping with the best traditions of the club,” states the

annual report of the Petone Rugby Football Club's committee. “We feel that the somewhat lower positions in the open grade championship, in some degree, are directly responsible to the laxity of tfie training of the players iri these grades,)’ states the committee. “From senior A down to third grade there is room for improvement in training. Players should remember that they have a responsibility not only to the- club but also to themselves to see that they are sufficiently fit to do themselves justice on the field of play. Certainly night school has an effect upon training, and allowance is always made for this, but at the same time the committee is not satisfied that members have taken full advantage of the training facilities offered. We have no complaints against the douches, who have made many sacrifices,'and are no doubt just as disappointed as the committee at the apparent neglect of training. “It is recommended that the incoming committee take this matter seriously in hand, and unless players are prepared to do the fair thing and train as they should that their claims for recognition be entirely overlooked. There is no disguising the fact that many of the defeats iii the open grades are directly responsible to the players not being in proper condition to see out a strenuous match. It should not be said that we are weaklings and it behoves those who have the interest of our national game at heart to take every step to ensure that they are properly equipped to do themselves justice on the field of play/’
