WEDDINGS

A rc h bo I d—Owe n A wedding of considerable interest to Foxton district residents was held in All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, on a recent evening, the contracting parties being Hazel Collings, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. IL Owen, Foxton, and Thomas James, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Archbold, Riccarton, Christchurch. The ceremony was performed by Canon G Y. Woodward. The church had beeu charmingly decorated by friends of the bride with'hydrangeas in pastel shades, and the wedding music was played by Mr. J. Holmes, Runnicles. The bride entered the church escorted by her father. She wore a gown of embossed silver lame, cut on classical lines. The high-nebked corsage was finished with a Peter Pan collar and was pointed and slightly full in front, the sleeves being fully puffed to the elbows. Tiny self-buttons ornamented the frock to the hem, the skirt being slit in front and curving to the train. Her square tulle veil, which had been lent by Mrs. Bruhn, of Brisbane, sister of the bridegroom, was beautifully embroidered in the corners with silver, and was held to her head with a coronet of orange blossom. It fell to form a long train. An arm sheaf of lilium auratum with fine maidenhair and silver lame ribbon was carried.

In attendance Jis bridesmaid was Miss Betty Bailey, formerly of Palmerston North, and now of Christchurch. She wore a ground-length slim-fitting frock of lame Cordelia crepe, fashioned on similar lines to the bridal goWn, the puffed sleeves being slightly ruched to give a square shoulder effect, and the belt finished with a gold buckle at the back. She wore gold sandals and a wreath of gold leaves in her hair, and carried a sheaf of gladilo and ge'rberas in the same shade as her frock. Mr. R. Cook was best man.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the Jade Tearooms, where relatives and. a few intimate friends were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Owen. Flowers to tone with the bridal party were artistically arranged, and surmounting the three-tiered wedding cake was a silver vase of flowers with trails of asparagus fern. Mrs. Owen wore a frock of black cloque georgette with white embroideries on the corsage and sleeves, a picture hat of black balibuntal, also silver fox furs. She carried a posy of deep rose and pftle pink carnations and gladioli. Mrs. Archbold, mother of the bridegroom, wore a frock of heavy navy crepe-de-chine with beige frilled vest, and, a navy balibuntal hat trimmed with pastel shades. Her posy was of flame gladioli. , ! s When the bride and bridegroom left later, the former was wearing a smart black tailored suit with maize georgette blouse, a small black velour hat and golden fox furs, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. and Mrs. Archbold will make their future home at Wellington.
