GARDEN PARTY

St. Mark's Church School

St. Mark’s Church School, Duffer-, in Street was certainly favoured with | perfect weather yesterday .for its', garden party in aid of funds for fencing the new playground. There was a large attendance of parents,.of pupils and their friends, and among the official guests were Mrs, T. 11. Sprott, the Rev. F. E. Robertshawe and Mrs. Robertshawe, the Rev. 11. E. K. Fry and Mrs Fry and the Rev. A. T. Bristed Page. Several stalls did brisk business and afternoon tea was served in the new assembly hall with its attractive red and blue-banded window hangings, where vases of dahlias decorated the tables. During the afternoon the pupils of the school, trained by the principal, Miss Holm, and Miss E. Holm, gave exhibitions of folk-dancing and maypole dancing. For the former they wore white frocks and wide-brim-med coloured hats and matching sashes, and for the latter their hats were of red, white, and blue, to match the streamers radiating from the maypole. "Organised games were also watched with much interest. Before leaving, the parents took the opportunity of wandering round the school grounds, which, in most quaint fashion, are dotted with stone ducks, birds, and little heads peeping from rosebuds, and with little coloured dwarfs. The afternoon tea, which was served by a committee of mothers, was donated by the parents of the pupils.
