Ministerial. The Hon. F. Jones, PostmasterGeneral, returned to Wellington from the north yesterday morning. The Hon. W. Grimwood, of the Transpacific and Islands Services Department of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. G. H. Mackley, C.M.G., general manager of New Zealand Railways, Mr. G. J. Bertinshaw, chief engineer, and Mr. G. G. Stewart, publicity manager, who have been visiting Auckland on departmental business during the past few days, returned to Wellington last evening. Mr. G. M. Smith, managing director of John Burns and Co., Ltd., Auckland, was elected president of the New Zealand Hardware Merchants’ Guild and president of the New Zealand Galvanised Sheet Guild at the annual general meetings of these bodies, held in Wellington on February 1. Captain J. F. Spring Brown, Sydney, formerly commodore of the Union Steam Ship Company’s fleet, is touring New Zealand in preparation for his pilotage of the Empress of Britain while she is in Dominion waters. He is a guest at the Hotel Waterloo, and is accompanied by Mrs. Spring Brown.
