ARDUOUS TASK
Atmosphere Of Suspicion Found By Van Zeeland GREAT PUBLIC INTEREST By Telegraph.—Press. Assn.—Copyright. London, January 27. It is understood that M. 'Van Zeeland traversed such a thorny path across the principal countries .of Central and Western Europe and found such suspicion among tlie leading financial and economic authorities that he declared lie would never like to take on such an arduous and thankless job again. Thg Associated Press News Agency understands that it may be assumed that other countries will be ready to join in practical action on the lines of M. Van Zeeland’s report and that the United Kingdom will be prepared to play a part. Public interest in tlie report is so keen that the French imd British Governments’ in concurrence with M. Van Zeeland, decided to publish it immediately it was received. Therefore they have not had an opportunity to study the proposals fully or jointly. It is likely that after the closesjt study has been made there xwill be an informal exchange of views between the countries concerned to test the atmosphere for a formal meeting, but the outlook does not appear to be very hopeful.
