•'Dominion” Special Service.—By Air Mall. London, January 2. A Mayfair society woman, the Hon. Mrs. M. King-Farlow, plans to blaze a new air route to Australia or bhe Far East. Grand-daughter of the late Lord Runciman, the shipping magnate, she is now preparing for the flight. She hopes to start early in the spring from a south country airport Mrs. KingFarlow is the mother of a five-year-old glrl. In the exhibition of work done in the special schools of London the star exhibitor is 21-year-old Miss Carrie Rivett, who paints, sews and plays the piano without fingers or thumbs. Her history from the age of 11 to 21 is shown by special exhibits. She now earns her living as a commercial artist, bolding her paint brushes between the palms of her hands. She was a prize pupil of the London County Council special schools which cater for children suffering from severe mental or physical handicaps. As hostess for her brother, she met and entertained Gladstone, Rosebery, Parnell, Matthew Arnold, George Meredith and other famous men. She was created a Companion of Honour in 1918. She was a member of the Royal Commission on Civil Service in 1912, and was on tlie General Nursing Council and other important committees. She was the author of a number of books, mainly on Scotland and philosophy. She wrote notable biographies of her mother, who lived to be a centenarian, and of Mrs. Gaskell.
