AFTER THE PICNIC

State Advances' Office Dance As a conclusion to their very successful annual picnic, which was held yesterday, the staff of the State Advances Corporation organised a dance last night at the Wellington Rowing Club. The picnic was held at Maidstone Park, and the day was spent in athletic sports, a tennis tournament, a cricket match, and swimming at Maoribank. Mr. T. N. Smallwood, joint managing director of the corporation, presented the prizes for the various events, and Mr. K. J. Caverhill, secretary of the corporation, was also present. The rowing club was attractively decorated with red, black and white streamers. Mr. John Carrad provided the music, and also led community singing, and dancing continued until early this morning. The committee responsible for arranging both the picnic and the dance consisted of Misses Marjorie Gray, Audrey O’Brien, M. Ahern, Ngaire Mulligan, Messrs. W. G. Dent, 11. E. Wilson, N. Wright, L. Withy, G. Stevenson, G. Pollock, W. Mclver and N. Marks. Among those present at the dance were Misses Barbara Swan, Ngaire King, Pat Barton, Frances Costello, Margaret Fair, Peggy Clark, Erica Williamson, Dorothy Walker, Kathleen Hayes, K. Walsh, Stephanie Suckling, Jan Adams, Joan Bornasconi, Mamie White, Gwen Lister, Messrs. T. Davies, 0. Spalvln, R. Straughn, R. Staunton, D. Gordon, E. Tate, I. Watson, A. Hood, B. Atkins, R. O’Brien, E. Irving, L. Messinger, J. McLaughlin, T. Cotterill, A. Turnbull, G. Hunter, C. Searle, and W. Heffernan.
