GARDEN PARTY

Mrs. Todd Entertains The Kelburn Croquet Club

in the sunshine of yesterday afternoon, the grounds of Mrs. Charles Todd’s attractive home in Bolton Street were an ideal setting for a garden party. Against a background of shady trees the flower-beds surrounding the lawns and terraces were bright with hydrangeas in deep pinks and blues, scarlet and yellow dahlias, and red petunias. Mrs. Todd is the president of the Kelburn Croquet Club, and the club member's were her guests. She received her visitors on the terrace above her croquet lawn, wearing a frock of marina blue spotted crepe and a widebrimmed hat of bangkok straw. The afternoon, was spent in friendly croquet contests and competitions organised by the dub captain, Mrs. R. Gardner. The onlookers watched from the terrace or from a corner of the garden, where, beneath sheltering trees and the shade of a red and .white striped garden umbrella Cool drinks liad been set out. Afternoon tea was served in the din-ing-room, which was decorated with huge bowls of hydrangeas and vases of dahlias, asters, and columbines. -Mrs. Bob White, who was wearing a slimfitting frock of marigold yellow linen, trimmed with brown, assisted her mother at tea time. When the guests left at the end of a delightful afternoon they all agreed that there could have been no pleasanter way for the club members to meet and informally discuss topics of mutual interest and plans for the coming croquet season.
