The Flower Garden Iceland poppies sown now will give you winter flowers. Prepare for the planting of all spring-flowering bulbs and order supplies from your nurseryman. Narcissi should be planted as early as possible. If they were not lifted, the surface of the soil should be loosened and a thin covering of fine garden loam scattered over the plot. Sow some of the new calendulas. Hydrangeas are now feeling the effects of the hot weather and should now be given a summer mulch. Leaf mould or old cow manure are the best materials to use. To prolong the flowering display, remove faded blooms from roses, sweet peas, etc., at frequent intervals. Winter-flowering stocks can now be sown. Greenfly is now making its appearance on rose and other bushes. Spray with nicotine sulphate diluted in soapy water. ' The Vegetable Garden Make sowings of early dwarf peas, salads and French beans. Thin out root crops rs growth demands. Sow onions, carrots, turnips, radishes, lettuces, swedes and spinach. Spray tomato plants with Bordeaux Mixture. Apple trees should be sprayed for codlin moth with arsenate of lead. Lettuce can be sown and planted at fortnightly intervals. Earth up potatoes. Plots not likely to be used for some time should now be sown down in green crops for digging in.
