Knight Of Australia Runs Sound Mile By Telegraph—Prest< Association Auckland, January 27. A. feature of the track gallops, for the Takapuna meetings at Ellerslie this morning was the attractive mile of Knight of Australia. Others to impress were Stretto, Droll, Play On. and Rereatu. Rain fell overnight and the going ou the course proper, on which the flags were 45ft. out from the rails, was cutting out slightly; nevertheless, some good efforts were registered. Captain Bruce and Bronze Ora were the first out, and there was little between them at the conclusion of half a mile, run in 52 2-ssec. Captain Bruce appreciated the easier going. Knight of Australia was responsible for a first-class trial mile, being assisted over the last half-mile by Bonnybelle. He ran the first four furlongs iu 52 2-5, and completed the full distance in 1.4 u 4-5, beating his companion, who took o 4 3-5, by several lengths. Kilonsa, going wfll within herself, ran seven furlongs in 1.37. The best sprint of the morning was that of Stretto, who traversed five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. She ran the first two in 25, and was being kept up to her work at the finish. Aero Queen impressed more than irevace when covering five furlongs in 1.6, the first two furlongs taking 25. Neil was eent over a mile and a quarter, running the last round in 2.20 ~-o, and the final seven furlongs in 1.42 2-.». Royal Appellant was holding Gay Bronev at the end of a mile, which occupied 1.48 3-5. The first half-mile was covered in 54 3-5. . . There was little between Fleetwind and Aero King at the end of a five-fur-long sprint, run in 1.4 3-5. Both these hacks impressed. . Pasture. Lady Defoe, and Rajanya were in that order at the conclusion of half a mile, which occupied 51 2-5. They had a fair amount of pace on when they jumped off, running the first furlong in 12 2-5 Play On beat Privy Seal by several lengths over six furlongs in 1.19 He ran his first three furlongs in 36 3-5 and was easing up at the finish. Silver Quex displayed a lot of dash when running half a mile in ol 4-5. Surella was clear of Mundane at the end of six furlongs in-1.20 2-5, the- first two in 25 2-5. Tybnlt, who jumped off some distance hehilill the pair, ran seven furlongs in 1.32 4-5. . Rereatu showed to advantage m the going by reeling off half a mile in 50 4-5. the initial furlong being covered in 1~ 1-3. He was running bn in good style at the finish.
