FROZEN MEAT TRADE
Shipments To Great Britain Frozen meat shipments from New Zealand for the 31 months of the present season, October 1. to January 15, supplied by the Meat Board, show increases in chilled beef, frozen beef, . pork and boneless beef, and decreases in mutton and lamb. The figures are given below, with those for the corresponding period. o£ the 1936-37 season shown in parenChilled beef, quarters, 48,294 (44,111). Frozen beef, quarters, 41,809 (36,793). Mutton, carcases, 307,384 (318,276). Lamb, carcases, 1,316.769 (1,349,175). Pork, carcases', 162,7<i9 (160,125). Boneless beef, bags, 71,310 (38,905). Killings over the same period show increases under all heads, with the exception of baconev pork, and are as follows, figures for the corresponding period of 1936-37 being shown in parentheses: — Chilled beef (quarters), 50,387 (42,695); frozen beef (quarters), 7767 (4256) ; wether mutton careases), 156.378 (111,664) ; ewe mutton (carcases), 78,243 (26,029) ; lamb (carcases), 2,722,Sl2 (2,499,380) ; pork (porkers), carcases, 116,941 (114,613) ; pork (baconers), carcases, 105,492 (110,952) ; bondless beef (freight carcases), 94,520 (33,575) ; boneless bobby veal (freight carcases), 71,467 (68,763) ; sundries, 69,608 (11,703). Bi-iuontlily Shipments. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board is advised by cable from its Loudon office that the shipments from Australia, South America, and South Africa to the United Kingdom during the first half of January. 1938, were as follows: — Australia: Carcases mutton, 32,876; carcases lamb, 106,OSO; quarters beef (frozen), 2552; quarters beef (chilled), 4937. South America: Carcases mutton, 11,150; carcases lamb, 100,244 ; quarters beef (frozen), 1286; quarters beef (chilled), 176,862. South Africa (including Southern Rhodesia) : Quarters beef (chilled), 513. The shipments from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the first half of January were as follows: —Carcases mutton. 48,679: carcases lamb, 466,143; quarters beef (frozen), 3291; quarters beef (chilled), 14,723; carcases pork, 34.787; bags boneless beef, 12,969. In addition, 5302 careases of lamb and 598 careases of mutton were shipped to Eastern Canada, and 1102 aunrters of frozen beef to Japan.
