YACHT WAYFARER OUT OF TASMAN RACE
Sheltering At Whangaroa By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 27. K. Reid, captain of the yacht Wayfarer, which is sheltering in Wlianga roa, after a terrific thrashing by a storm in the vicinity of Cape Maria Van Diemen, states that be Jias definitely decided to withdraw from the race to Hobart and will leave Whnngaroa to-morrow or on Saturday for Auckland. Ho added that despite terrific seas comparatively little water was shipped. At the height of tlie storm a fault developed in tlie steering gear, but this was soon repaired. The rest of the gear stood up remarkably well, al t'hough tlie brand-new mainsail begar to split in places. No word lias been heard in Auckland of tlie other contestant, Aurora Star.
