Drummond returned north last night after a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. J. H. Flockton is a patient in the Bowen Street Hospital. He recently underwent, an optical operation. Mr. D. E. Wanklyn, Christchurch, returned south last night by the steamer express. Mr. A. G. Osborne, M.P. for Manukau, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. A. S. Duncan, Christchurch, returned south last night after a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. L. J. Stevens, Auckland, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Limited express. Dr. J. H. Fahey, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Captain D. Gibson, a marine surveyor, of Sydney, arrived at 'Wellington yesterday by the Wanganella. Dr. J. K. Davidson, Christchurch, returned south last night by the steamer express. Dr. M. G. Louisson, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. J. O’Brien, M.P. for Westland, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. P. H. Venables, Christchurch, returned south last night after a brief visit to Wellington. The Hon. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C., Auckland, arrived at 'Wellington yesterday by the Limited express. The Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. E. T. Spidy, superintendent of railway workshops, returned to Wellington yesterday from the north. Mr. W. Easton, general manager of the “Otago Daily Times,” arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express.

Mr. A. H. Honeyfield, of the Department of Internal Marketing, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Limited express. ✓ Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association, returned by the Wanganella yesterday from a month’s holiday in Sydney. Mr. M. Manthel, of Manthel Motors, Ltd., has returned to Wellington after spending a holiday in the Marlborough Sounds.

Mr. C. M. Malfroy, formerly of the State Forest Service, returned to Wellington by the Wanganella yesterday after a Jen months’ trip to Europe. Mr. G. A. Lawrence,'president of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry, left last night for Christchurch to attend the annual conference. Mr. B. Allen, general, manager for New Zealand of United Artists (Australia), Limited, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Limited express. Mr. D. A. EWen. managing director of Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd., left for the north last night by the Limited express. He was accompanied by Mrs. Ewen.

Mr. N. S. Falla, managing director ot the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited, left Auckland for Australia by the Awatea on Tuesday. He will return early in February. Mr. F. W. Dunn, Wellington, who has been assistant secretary of the Masterton Show for 25 years, is at present visiting Masterton in connection with the annual exhibition next month.

Mr. A. F. Salmon? general manager of the Gisborne Sheep Farmers’ Co., Ltd., left Auckland for London by the Rangitane on Monday. Mr. Salmon, who is accompanied by his wife, is on a health visit to England. Mr. E. F. Peacocke, Hamilton, has been nominated by the Waikato County Council to represent five county councils in the Waikato and King Country on the Ruakura Experimental Farm advisory committee. The Very Rev. Dean Holley, S.M., who has been in charge of the Napier Catholic parish for the past eight years, has received advice of his transfer to the Blenheim charge. His place at Napier will be taken by the Rev. Dr. Casey, S.M., formerly of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Greenmeadows. Mr. C. P. Robinson, a member of the South African Parliament, and Mrs. Robinson, who have been visiting this country, left Auckland on Tuesday by the Awatea for Sydney. Mr. Robinson Is to represent South Africa at the 150th anniversary celebrations of'Australia.

Mr. J. H. Carrick, drains inspector of the Wellington city engineer’s staff, will be retiring on February 5 next. Mr. Carrick joined the city council staff as fitter in the waterworks department in 1906 and was appointed water inspector in 1914, two years later as sanitary inspector, and soon afterward to the position he now holds. Mr. C. L. Brock, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Brock, of Westshore, Napier, who has lately been headmaster of the Whatman School, Masterton, has been appointed principal of the Boys’ Grammar School, Suva, Fiji. Mr. Brock, accompanied by his wife and son, will leave Auckland to take up his new appointment on January 25, sailing by the Aorangi. Dr. A. G. Rutter, formerly a housesurgeon at. the Napier Hospital, has been successful in obtaining the degree of F.R.C.S. (Edinburgh). Dr. Rutter is on the staff of St. Bartholomew Hospital, Rochester, Kent, England. In March next Dr. Rutter intends proceeding to the islands as a medical missionary. ,

Colonel R. J. Blackham is a passenger to New Zealand by the Akaroa, which left. London on December 28. He is on a holiday trip and will leave for Australia after about a fortnight in the Dominion. Colonel Blackham was on the staff of the Viceroy of India from 1912 to 1914, and is an assistantcommissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
