BRABIN CUP CRICKET

Two Auckland Grammar School

Representatives

The Wellington team, which is to play Auckland in the Brabin Cup match at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on December 27 and 28, will meet foemeu worthy of their steel. For the first time in the history of Auckland cricket, two members of the Auckland Grammar School eleven have gained junior representative honours for the Auckland Association, reports the Auckland “Star.” To show how meritorious this performance is it need only be stated that in the past the Brabin Cup eleven has been drawn almost exclusively from senior B ranks, which often include actual senior players of the following season. In fact, a man could even play two major competition matches without losing his senior B status. There is, however, an age-limit of 21 for the purposes of selection of the Brabin Cup eleven, which this year (for the first time) goes as far afield as Christchurch. Brian Warner, the Grammar wicketkeeper, is not only a fine player behind the stumps, but scored 116 not out against Sacred Heart, and 110 in the annual match at Aliddlemore agaiust King’s College.

K. S. Arkinstall, the other Grammarian selected, hit tlie first century of the season for the school eleven, 102 not out, against Seddon Memorial Technical College. He has also been one of the most successful bowlers of this year’s Auckland Grammar School team, besides which he is the champion middle-distance runner at Mountain Road,
