OBITUARY

Mr. Thomas Wagg The death occurred yesterday morning at Levin of Mr. Thomas Wagg, Masterton, states a “Dominion” .Special Service message. Mr. Wagg for many years had been closely associated with the business and municipal life of Masterton, and was one of the town’s best; known and most highly respected citizens. Born at the Upper Hutt 76 years ago, Mr. Wagg entered business in Masterton in 1890, and in 1912 converted it into a motor engineering establishment, doing a large trade with motor-cars throughout the Wairarapa district. For many years he was a borough councillor and a member of the Trust Lands Trust. He had been a director of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society for many years. For about 53 years he had been a member of the Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19, and for several years had occupied the position of treasurer. Recenty he was made an honorary life member of the lodge. As a J.P. he was looked upon as having a splendid knowledge of his,duties. Mr. Wagg leaves a widow and five sons, Messrs. Guy and George Wagg, Mastertou; William Wagg, Martinborough; Jack Wagg, Wellington; and Leo Wagg, Napier; and one daughter, Mrs. J. Kennedy, Masterton. Mrs. E. J. Allis The death occurred at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Handyside. Te Oro Ore Road, Masterton, yesterday morning, of Mrs. Eliza Jane Ajlis, after a brief illness, states a “Dominion” Special Service message.

Mrs. Allis was born in Lincolnshire, England, 76 years ago. She came to New Zealand with her husband aud three children forty years ago. She is survived by one son, Mr. Clifford Allis, Wellington., and two daughters, Mrs. M. Rickard. Napier, and Mrs. J. H. Handyside, Masterton. Mr. G. Wallace The death has occurred of Mr. George Wallace, .90 Glenmore Street, ■Wellington. He was the eldest sou of Mr. and Mrs. James Wallace, Gonville, Wanganui, and was born in Glasgow. He came to New Zealand at an early age and lived for many years at Wanganui. He entered the railway service as a cadet and was connected with the accountants’ branch of the bead office, Wellington. Mr. Wallace was keenly interested in sport and was a foundation member of the Salamanca Tennis Club and first secretary. He took a leading part in the work of St. Andrew’s Church, and served on the board of managers and in the choir. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. The funeral service at Karori was conducted by the Rev. A. B. Kilroy. Mr. A. F. Foot Mr. Augustus Francis Foot, a prominent member of the Wellington Bowling Club, and a retired bank manager, died in a private hospital in Wellington yesterday morning, after a short illness. Mr. Foot, who was in his sixty-first year, was born at Greymouth, and had lived in Wellington since his retirement from the Bank of New Zealand in 1933. Prior to his retirement he had been manager of the bank branches in Woodville, Takapau, and Cromwell, and the war years had been on the staff of the Wallington branch. Since his retirement in 1933 he had been a member of the Wellington Bowling Club, and at. the lime of his death be was one of the directors of the club. He was also on tlie staff of the Bank Officers’ Guild. Mr. Foot, whose residence was at 79 Tollman Street, Brooklyn, leaves a widow; and four sons, Messrs. F. .1. Foot, P. F. Foot, and W. M. Foot, Wellington, and Mr. W. Foot, Invercargill.
