CUDDLE’S FUTURE

What Of Australia? (By Cahbine.) The splint which has been affecting Cuddle became a little troublesome toward the end of last week, and after consultation the owner, Mr. R. J. Murphy, and the trainer, T. R. George, decided not to race her at the Christmas or New Year meetings. It was because of this decision that she was withdrawn from the Wairarapa Cup—on the day before the declaration of the handicaps. George is not pessimistic about the future of Cuddle. He says that the splint is a minor tiling, and that he hopes to have the mare fit to race very soon. Naturally,’ he regrets that she has had to be eased just now. An authoritative statement has not been ma'de. but it would not be surprising were Cuddle to race in Australia in the autumn, after the Wellington Cup meeting. Cuddle's previous visits to the Commonwealth have not been blessed by the best of luck, and Mr. Murphy might like to afford Australians another opportunity of seeing bis mare at her best. Big prize money will be offered by the Australian Jockey Club at its autumn meeting, because of the 150th anniversary celebrations which are to be held in Sydney next year. The Sydney Cup, to be run on April 18. will be worth £7200. the highest ever for this race. It would be pleasing to see Cuddle back to her best with the chance of crowning the later years of her career with victory in such a race.
