BRITAIN’S XMAS SPENDING
High Level Of Note Circulation By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, December 16. As an indication 'that there is no slackening off in retail business and that Christmas spending is greater than ever, the Bank of England note circulation has reached almost £502,000,000, establishing a new high record. The cable message is in error in stating that this week’s note circulation is a “new high record.” At £501,900,000 it is nearly £2,000,000 below the record of £503,877,456 of August 4 last. Present indications are, however, that a new high record will be made next week. The Christmas week note circulation a year ago was £474,100,000.
