PROPHETS OF SLUMP
Mr. Chamberlain’s Timely
Rebuke
(British Official Wireless.)
Rugby, December 15.
The rebuke by the Prime Minister, Mr. Chamberlain, of prophets of approaching depression, made in answer to a House of Commons question yesterday, is regarded as timely and is justified by economic experts. Sir William Larke, director of the British Iron and Steel Federation, stated that there are no signs of any trade recession in Britain. Many producers were fully engaged well into next year and many consumers had forecast increasing consumption during 1938.
