Christmas Gathering
Under the chairmanship of the president, Mr. K. Atkinson, members of the Yorkshire Society of New Zealand held a Christmas gathering in the rooms of the English-Speaking Union this week. . Representatives of kindred county societies were present as guests, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., on behalf, later returning thanks for the hospitality. Following the president’s welcome, greetings . from the Lord Mayors of York, Leeds, Hull and Sheffield and the mayor of Halifax were read.
The Cameo Three, Miss Molly Atkinson, Mr. O. Bonifant. and Mr. Clement Howe, gave musical items. Miss Ava Symons entertained with the violin, and Mr. J. J. Hemingway gave a dialect reading and humorous stories. A silver contribution toward Dr. Barnardo’s Homes was taken up, resulting in £l/5/6 being collected.
