Welcome To New Y.M.C.A.

A. cheery luncheon was held yesterday by the Wellington Optimists’ Club to conclude highly successful year and also to enable members to welcome the new secretary of the Y.M.C.A..

Mr. Victor C. Jones, and Mrs. Jones. Other guests included Mrs. G. F. Hatfield, 0.8. E., honorary field secretary of the National M’omen's Auxiliaries of the Y.M.C.A.’s of Great Britain, and Mr. Lowell C. Pinkerton, Consul-Gen-eral for the United States. Mr. J. F. Buekrell presided. Replying to the president’s welcome, Mr. Jones stressed the international character of the Y.M.C.A. Whenever he thought of a city, said Mr. Jones, no matter whether it was in Scandinavia or South America, he always thought of a personality—a man in the organisation to which he himself belonged. He felt sure that with its membership of 2,000,000 the Y.M.C.A. could play its part in the march of progress.

Mr. Pinkerton, in joining the president in welcoming Mr. Jones, expressed his pleasure at being present, and said he had no doubt that Mr. Jones would enjoy the greatest success as secretary of the Y.M.C.A.
