STOCKS AND SHARES

Wellington Business Dull A LANGUID DEMAND No special features were seen yesterday in the Wellington stock and share markets, which remained quiet. With few exceptions prices were about steady on inactive trading. Little interest was shown in the gilt-edged sections. The 4 per cent. Government stock, 1946-49, sold 5/- up at £lO2/12/6. Banks were dull and easy, the only sales being New Zealands at 43/8 to 43/9 and New South Wales at £32/17/6. Financial and pastorals were neglected, and there was little call for insurance, gas, woollens, coal, timber or brewery issues. Huddart Parkers firmed to 42/- without response. N.Z. Breweries had a late sale at 45/9. N.Z. Newspapers firmed to business at 38/-. Woolworths Ltd. eased to sales at 26/- and 25/11 and McKenzies sold 3d. down at 74/-. Broken Hill Proprietary were better at 63/-, sellers 63/6. Electrolytic Zincs, Mount Lyells and Barriers improved slightly in sympathy with the London base metals market. Dealings recorded on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday were as follows :—
