Increase
Reporting to the Wellington Harbour Board last night on the trade and shipping statistics for November, the chairman, Mr. D. J. McGowan, said, that there had been an increase in the shipping arrivals as well as in the tonnage handled, as compared with November, 1936. The net tonnage of trading vessels arriving was 341,683 tons, an increase of 11,570 tons. The cargo handled was 181,921 tons, as compared with 160,232 tons, an increase of 21,689 tons. The principal increases were in imports of general cargo from coastal and Australian ports 5282 tons; oils in bulk 10,538 tons, and exports to coastal and Australian ports 6432 tons. Decreases were shown in imports from British and foreign ports, 4497 tons, and wool and hemp shipments, 3085 bales.
