Scene In The Commons

A scene of great disorder occurred, in the House of Commons, when the 1 rime Minister moved the rescission of the Banbury amendment to the Home Rule Bill, carried against the Government by the Opposition by a majority o f .22 on a snatch division. The Opposition hotly

criticised the Government. Sir Kurus Isaacs, the Attorney-General, on rising to reply on behalf of the Government, was met with scenes of disorder, and the sitting was adjourned for an hour. When the sitting was resumed Sir Rufus Isaacs was again frustrated by cries of Adjourn 1” The Speaker’s appeals for order were without result, and finally he said it was clear the Opposition would not allow further progress and the sitting was adjourned until next day. » * *

Mr. Royd Garlick, well known in connection with his physical culture school in Wellington, has been appointed director of physical education in the schools of the Dominion under the scheme (recently outlined by the Hon. Janies Allen) which 10 to replace the junior cadet system as it has hitherto existed, and also to make provision for the physical training ot girls. » * ♦

The White Hart Hotel at Marton was entirely destroyed by fire at 3 o clock yesterday morning. Some of the occupants had a very narrow escape, and a number of gallant rescues were effected.
