Firmly established on the best breeding lines procurable, this herd is rapidly proving itself expedient to present-day demands under the proved sire and successful show bull Union Jack, and his son, Riverton Prince, two fine bulls conforming ideally to the Chilled Beef requirements, as evidenced by the brilliant success scored in the N.Z. Chilled Beef Championship, staged by the Wanganui A. & P. Association in 1934. The carcases judged at Smithfield in a very strong class of 41 competitors, all breeds, a three-year-old steer from the Riverton Herd won-the Great Chilled Beef Championship. Another was placed fourth, whilst all the placed animals from Bth to 15th inclusive were representatives of the Riverton team. And all the Riverton-bred steers were sired by Riverton Prince. E. M.
