Song Group Meeting The song group of the British Music Society held its monthly meeting recently in Miss Lorna Black’s studio, the topic for the evening being “Alternate Settings.” This provided members with the opportunity to delve for works and a most interesting collection of songs by alternate composers was the result of their efforts. Those contributing to the jirogramme were: Misses I. Potter, ‘Nod, by Armstrong Gibbs and Temple Bevan; M. Rising, “It Was a Lover and His Lass,” Newton; B. Douglas, “None But the Wcarv Heart,” Tschaikowsky and Schubert: J. Stirling, “Requiem.” Homer and Cvril Scott; E. Lewis, “O Fair Sweet and Holy.” Nevin and Rubenstein ; and Messrs. Owen Bonifant, “O Mistress Mine,” Quilter and Warlock: and W. R. Hill, items by Gordon Bryan, Purcell and Peter Warlock. The group was fortunate in having as its guest speaker Mr. Greville Wigges, who chose as his subject “The Romance of Type.” Going back 500 years to the middle of the fifteenth century, he depicted most realistically the changes that have taken place in typography. illustrating features of his talk with samples of different types.. Remarks concerning the relationship ot type to music were given by Mr. Clement Howe, and Miss M. Atkinson provided a delightful recital, her programme comprising works by Dowland, First Book of Ayres. 1597, Caville, Borjou. Blow, Harold Flower Thomas, and John Ireland. .

The next meeting of the song group is scheduled to take place early in November.
