THE RISKS WE RUN EVERYWHERE
Motorists Should Carry First-Aid Outfit
Those who find recreation in camping. picnicking, motoring or. tramping seldom give the thought they should to everyday risks. An emergency call for one or other of the aids of medical science may find us unprepared. It does not occur to us that we are not adequately equipped should anything untoward happen—that wc have not readily at hand some palliative, some temporary expedient, to ease or protect an injury or wound, and thus not only alleviate pain, but add to peace of mind. When fathers and mothers are preparing for a motoring outing, ample care is taken to see that there is sufficient food and clothing for every member of the party, but. seldom is a thought given to the ever-present risk that somewhere, miles away from habitation and medical assistance, something might happen to some member of the party, particularly the children. A sprain, a cut, a fall, a burn or a sting should not be neglected. The trilling cut in a child’s foot or hand may develop, if unprotected and improperly treated, into something worse, and major hurts demand something more than sympathy and guesswork until proper medical skill may he summoned.
A first aid case contains Friars balsam, iodine, sal volatile, aromatic ttilies, boric lint, adhesive plaster, potassium permanganate tablets, sterilised burn drossings, sterilised finger dressings, compressed absorbent wool, compressed boracic lint, triangular bandage, safety pins, forceps, surgical scissors, tourniquet, and a camel hair brush. Affixed inside the lid of the container is a list of instructions, including advice on treating cuts, fainting, sunstroke, fits, sprains, stings, etc.
