Terrorists’ Crimes In Galilee TWO MEN KILLED District Commissioner And Policeman By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Nazareth, September 20. Besides killing a British constable, armed Arabs shot dead an Australian, Lewis Yelland Andrews, District Commissioner in Galilee. He was 41 years of age. and leaves a widow and three children.
The Arab Higher Committee learned of the assassinations with deep regret. It is believed that the public share the horror and condemnation of the crime. Three asstrssins shot Andrews as he was leaving an Anglican Church, which he attended as a representative of the High Commissioner. The murdered policeman, Peter Robertson McEwan, was in plain clothes, and died in half an hour. His term of service was almost expired, and fie had intended to go then to New Zealand in order to marry. Mr. Pirie Gordon. Assistant-District Commissioner, narrowly escaped. “Run for it, Pirie Gordon, they’ve got us,” shouted Andrews as the murderers fired. He was aware that attempts on bis life were contemplated. He had been number oue on tho terrorists’ black list for months owing to the strictness of his rule.
The victims will be buried with military honours to-morrow.
Police-dogs are tracking down the assailants, and all roads have been closed. The curfew is being enforced.
