Vice-Regal. The Governor-General, Lord Galway, arrived at Napier yesterday afternoon accompanied by Captain R. StuartFrench, A.D.C. Last night Lord Galway attended the installation meeting of Lodge Haeata at Hastings, at which all of the Masonic Lodges of Hawke’s Bay were represented. On Wednesday evening he will attend a combined meeting of the Hawke’s Bay and Scinde Rose Croix Chapters, which will also be held at Hastings. Mr. Hugh W. C. Baird, president of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, and Mrs. Baird returned to Hastings during the week-end after three weeks holiday at Rotorua. Dr. Hardwick-Smith left Wellington for the north last night and will be away for several days. Dr. M. Gray returned to Christchurch last night after visiting Wellington.

Mr. C. J. Nathan, Wellington, returned home at the week-end after visiting the South Island. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Balham returned to Wellington at the week-end after visiting the South Island. The Hon. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has returned to Wellington after a short visit to Auckland.

Mr. H. E. Worsp, Whangarei, has been elected for a further term as chairman of directors of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, Limited. Paymaster-Commander 15. L. Tottenham, secretary to the New Zealand Naval Board, has been granted the temporary rank of paymaster-captain while holding his present appointment.

Mr. K. G. Kearney, who for several years has been an executive officer and latterly a director of The'Goldberg Advertising Agency Ltd., has tendered his resignation to that company. Messrs. I. T. Houston, 11. B. Cox, P. Souter, O. B. Smith, T. R. Pike, E. R. Osborn, K. F. Hardy, G. P. McGoldrick and E. J. Hendry, have been selected for the Civil Reserve of Air Pilots, provided they pass the necessary medical examination, according to advice received by the Otago Aero Club. Dr. McKinnon, Dr. Sinclair, Mrs. W. K. Cameron, Mrs. A. Orton, Miss M. R. Sherriffi and .Miss L. Sullivan, Dunedin, arrived at Wellington by the steamer express on Sunday on their way to Auckland to attend the biennial conference of the National Council of Women. Mr. E. S. Hobson, M.Sc., who is at present on the staff of John McGlashan College relieving Mr, J. A. Dunning, the New Zealand representative cricketer, has been appointed to a science and mathematics position at Wellington College. Mr. Hobson will take up his new duties on October 25.

Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. J. S. I’rendeville, president, of tlie Wellington Rugby Union, Mr. D. Spudding, a member of the council of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and Mr. J. S. King, who refereed Saturday's Test match, returned to Wellington ou Sunday. I’rov. Grand I’. IV. Stubb, who presided at. the half-yearly meeting of the Otago District, M.U.1.0.0.F., acted in that capacity for the second time during his association with the order. This is a distinction that has been enjoyed by a member only once previously since the formation of the society in Otago in 1848.
