Scholarships For Young
Journalists

Under the will of the late Mr. Robert Bell, chairman of directors of the “Ashburton Guardian,” a sum of £5OOO is given on trust to provide yearly travelling scholarships of £lOO for students who have taken a .journalistic degree at the School of Journalism, Canterbury College, established some years ago as a result of a benefaction by Mr. Bell. The present bequest expresses the wish that the holders will travel out of New Zealand as extensively as possible. devoting as much attention as the bequest makes practicable to irrigation projects, tree planting, improved agricultural methods, and other subjects of interest to farmers of Ashburton.
A bequest is made to assist pupils to attend the School of Journalism. Several pictures are bequeathed to the Robert MacDougall Art Gallery, Christchurch.
