RECLAIMED LAND FOR AIRPORTS

Success of Singapore Work

Dominton Special Service,

Auckland, September 14.

For the establishment of modern air terminals, major cities of Australia ami New Zealand might successfully emulate the method.* adopted in Singapore and secure admirable sites by the reclamation of unused foreshore. This view was expressed by Mr. George Keast, Frankston, Victoria, who arrived at Auckland by the Maetsuycker en route to Australia after a tour of the East.

“Singapore’s airport beggars descrip-

tion,” Mr. Keast stated. “The urea was reclaimed from a section of swamp near the city, and one could not contest, the contention that it is now the best-equipped terminal in the world. With offices covering nearly an acre of ground, wonderful accommodation is provided for travellers.” Mr. Keast strongly recommended the authorities at Auckland to consider the desirability of reclaiming a suitable foreshore site for any projected airport scheme.
