TRENCH FIGHT

Certain Cup Favourite

NOTES AND COMMENTS

F. Davis’s Australian Team

(By The Watcher.) Trench Fight does not appear to have been at all harmed by his escapade .last Saturday, judging by his track gallops during the week. There is little doubt he Will start a solid favourite for the Winter Cup. Track-watchers yesterday morning were impressed by his seven furlongs, easily the best of ail the work. Clarion Call.. Clarion Call is a dashing fencer, and his exhibition at Rieearton yesterday morning impressed the track-watchers. He is carrying more condition this year than last and is in better order. Last Year’s Winner. Royal Limond gave a good display over the steeplechase fences at Rieearton yesterday morning, showing no inclination to shirk the top brush. It seems Very peculiar that he will jump it one round in a race and run off in the next round. This gelding is very well and it Woiild be unwise to accept his form during the 12 months as a reliable guide. If he stays on the course next Tuesday he is' going to be one of the hardest horses to beat. In Good Order. ConCertpitch and Dictate have done 'ery well since their race on Saturday, nd promise to strip in good order for heir Winter Cup engagement. Judge for Ellerslie. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Racing Club held this week all' officials for the spring meeting were reappointed, with the exception that the committee decided to call for applications for the position of judge. Racing Profits. A feature of the annual meetings of. clubs now being held is the mutual satisfaction of members over the season’s bal-ance-sheets. It Would be mote interesting to know how many clubs have made proper provision for stakes based on the previous season's turnover. Racing clubs work one 'year ahead, a fact which is too often overlooked when the profits of the season jiist clout’d are being made the source of congratulation. Prospect for Next Week. Fiord's time for seven furlongs at Riccarton yesterday morning suggests that the race in the Brabazon Handicap last Saturday did him good. On that, and the Way he is Working, he looks a prospect for some money next Week. Winning Form in the South, Arhboa got chopped right out at the stait of the Brabazon Handicap, and was never in the hunt. He has worked well on the tracks since. Araboa is a stablemate of Cock oi* the North, and has good form in the south. Showed Promise Once. The Mercian King gelding Peter’s 1 mice, who showed a good deal’Of promise when raced by his breeder, Mr. Cl. D. Beatson, two ■or three years ago, is now among the track workers at Ellerslie.-

Now at \Vafi|anui, . . L... •’The’Ceißrepfcde gelding Middle, who Won the Ladies’* Bracelet event at the Khngitlkei Hunt Club’s meeting, is now tn the stable of W. H. Dwyer, Wanganui.

Team All Doing Well. F. Davis’s team, at present quartered at Wanganui, are all doing well in their spring preparations. Reports show that I’rancis Drake and Courtcraft ran a good t °? ether during the week in I.4a£. This points to them being verv forward. Aiwai and Relative are doing sprint tasks. So far Davis has not given Coronation, the Limond—Jewel of Asia colt, any serious tasks, but he is coming along nicely. The two-yeiir-i>ld filly Homily is more forward, and she has had two or three gallops, in which she has shown promise. Stud Items.
