LOWER TAXATION
Coining New South Wales Legislation (Received August 4, 8.40 p.m.) Sydney, August 3. The State Parliament was opened to-day by Lord Wakehurst. The Governor’s speech forecast a reduction in the special income tax and wages tax, a long programme of domestic legislation for improvement in social conditions, extension of the moratorium covering house property and mortgages, better control of the Stock Exchange and an active plan for closer settlement. Mr. R. W. D. Weaver was appointed Speaker in succession to the late Sir Daniel Levy.
