WHEAT HAS A PLACE
Referring to reports of reductions in North Island wheat sowings, a merchant interested in this crop stated : — '•Despite sheaf being so remunerative, wheat has a place on many North Island farms. Worn-out pastures are to be found on most farms. These need ploughing nnd resowing. “In the course of cultivation, a crop of wheat can well be taken from the ground. I know one farmer who so resowed his 500-acre farm, situated in a district not considered a grain-growing one. He did very well out of his wheat, and now has splendid pastures over his whole property, on which he runs sheep to-day. ‘■Wheat prices arc not 'really good, but at 6/1 bushel in the North Island, the crop is worth growing to bring in the land to good pastures. It is eminently suitable to the season's work. “Sowings can be made during August and September, and even to first week of October. The crop is off in good time for autumn sowing of pastures."
