Musicale For Free Ambulance A very successful gathering took place iu the Free Ambulance social hall yesterday afternoon, when the ladies’ auxiliary of the ambulance association held a musicale in aid of association funds. The hall was artistically decorated with Iceland popples, ferns and variegated foliage, and in the absence of the president, Lady Norwood, the vice-president, Airs. AV. H. Gledhill, welcomed the artists and large gathering of guests. An excellent programme had been arranged by Airs. Charles McDonald, and the contributing artists were: Airs. E. T. Spidy, song (accompanied by Aliss Irene Spidy) ; Airs. Grevllle Wiggs, recitations; Airs. Charles AlcDonald, pianoforte solos; Aliss Olga Burton, songs; and Mr. Allan Howard, songs. At the conclusion of this muchappreciated programme, a delightful afternoon ten, provided by members of the committee, was served. The committee present were: Airs. AV. H. Soiling by Wanganella Lady Owen, who has been visiting her mother, Lady Chapman, AVellington, for the past few weeks, will leave on her return to Sydney by the AVanganella to-night. Airs. R. D. Oliver, wife of Captain R. D. Oliver, Second Naval Member of the New Zealand Naval Board, will leave Wellington to-night by the Wanganella on a holiday trip to Australia. Air. and Mrs. F. C. AViddop, Kelburn, and t’heir daughter, Aliss Helen AViddop, will leave AVellington to-night by the AVanganella for Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. AViddop will stay in Australia for six months, and Aliss AViddop will go to the East for a holiday. Aliss Barbara AViddop, who is at present at Otago University College, will follow her parents to Australia in November. Airs. John Stevenson, Christchurch, and Aliss Janet Stevenson, will leave from Wellington to-night by the AVanganella for Australia. • Aliss Philippa Acland, Christchurch, will be a passenger for Sydney from Wellington to-night by the Wanganella. Aliss Gwen Pither, Alasterton, will leave from AVellington by the AVanganella to-night on a visit to relatives in Sydney and Alelbotirne. While she is away, Aliss Olive Fish will act as secretary and treasurer of the Alasterton branch of the British Aluslc Society. Aliss Pither will be accompanied by her aunt, Airs. F. I. Tattle, who is returning to her home after a short visit to New Zealand. Social Welfare Work Aliss L. J. Frayne, ALA., Wellington, who is at present studying methods of social welfare work in England, has come into touch with Dr. C. AV. Saleeby, the well-known founder of the Sunlight League, and she has visited his home in St. John’s AVood, where many plans for social betterment have their inception. Miss Frayne recently attended a conference in Hertfordshire, where much of the time was given to lectures on problems of the day. Dr. Saleeby was me of the speakers, his subject being ‘Back to Green Leaves.”

Airs. Alatthew Aliller, New York, was a guest of the Wellington branch of the English-Speaking Union at its luncheon yesterday, and at the conclusion, briefly addressed the members. Airs. C. H. Alorris, formerly of Takapuna, Auckland, has left to reside in Wellington.
