COAL MINERS’ STRIKE
Men Adopting Defiant Attitude (Received August 3,10.25 p.m.) Sydney, August 3. The conference between the coal mine proprietors and the miners has not yet reached a settlement and will be resumed to-night. The miners at the Broken Hill Proprietary collieries did not resume work to-day as agreed yesterday and, along with the men from some other pits, are adopting a defiant attitude. n_GAS WORKERS’ STRIKE ENDS (Received August 3, 7.55 p.m.) Adelaide, August 3. The stay-in strike by employees of the South Australian Gas Company ended with a compromise on the increase in wages demanded by the men, who are now back at work.
