Killed by Own Tribe While Pursued by Police Darwin, August 3. After being pursued by police for nearly twelve months, and outlawed by his tribe on account of five tribal killings, “Smiler,” who is known as the Lone Wolf of Arnheim Land, has been killed in the Liverpool River district. It appears that with the police on his heels “Smiler” was driven back toward his own country, where he was speared to death. It is unlikely that any further action will be taken bj the poilce, as “Smiler’s” death was caused by practically uncivilised natives in accordance .with tribal custom.
