Rome is a city of children in uniforms where foreign newspapers and periodicals are forbidden and where .the populace is kept ignorant of events in other parts of the world, sard Mr. Harvey Turner, who returned to Auckland by the Awatea after literally flying half-way round the world. Youths from eight to 18 thronged Rome, and wherever one went there were uniformed children ail playing a part, but if they were judged on general standards of smartness, then the New Zealand cadets were measurably superior. He was surprised at the rigidity and completeness witli which the regulations in Italy precluded the circulation of foreign newspapers and magazines
