"Tlie matter is one of such wide notoriety at the present time that men who take drink and drive, cars know tlie great risk they are taking,” said Mr. F. 11. Levien. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning when dealing with William Selwyn Hewson, who pleaded guilty to a charge of intoxication while in charge of it motor-van. The evidence showed that tlie defendant knocked down a man, who was also under tlie influence of drink. Hewson was lined £5 ami his licence was cancelled for 12 months. Mr. Levien added that about 75 per cent, of tlie eases of this kind coming before himself and other magistrates involved drivers of commercial vehicles, and that it would be establishing a precedent if lie. did not cancel the defendant’s licence.
