NEUTRALITY ISSUE

Views on British Proposals TWENTY-TWO REPLIES By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 29. Twenty-two replies to the request of the Non-Intervention Committee for a clear indication of the Government's views on the .British proposals for restoration of the frontier control of Spain, withdrawal of volunteers, and conditional recognition of belligerent rights had been received at the end of this afternoon by the Committee’s Secretariat, leaving five replies still required. The Chairman’s Sub-Committee is to meet to-morrow afternoon to consider’ the replies. It is understood that Italy and Germany accept the proposals, except the suggestion that belligerent rights shall not be granted till volunteers are substantially withdrawn. The Russian reply accepts the majority of the proposals, but insists on the withdrawal of Moroccan troops and opposes at present the granting of belligerent rights. SERIOUS DISTURBANCES Revolt at Granada (Received July 30, 8.20 p.m.) Valencia, July 30. Serious disturbances are reported from Granada, where numbers -of broops and civilians revolted. General Franco sent up planes to quell the disturbances. TRUCE IN SPAIN Suggestion Rejected (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 29. The Foreign Secretary (.Mr. Anthony Eden), in rejecting the suggestion of an immediate appeal for a truce in Spain which, he said, would be refused by both parties, assured the House of Commons that His Majesty’s Government was constantly watching the situation in order that no opportunity in which a further effort at mediation might usefully be made should be lost. EXPORT OF IRON ORE FROM BILBAO The Salamanca correspondent of “The Times,” in a cautious statement, indicates that normal exports of iron ore from Bilbao are to continue to Britain, provided “no special political economic considerations” intervene. This is construed as an attempt to bring pressure on Britain to recognise General Franco’s Government.
