NATIONAL TRIALS

Hunt Club Races To-day FORM AND PROSPECTS Excellent Racing in View (By The Watcher.) The card fo. the Christchurch Hunt Club’s annual meeting to be heid at Biccarton to-day is realiy up to Grand National standard, and with so many horses engaged that are in the big races later the form will be valuable in providing a line on prospects. Possibly some of the horses will not be quite ready to show their best, but in all respects’ the card represents one of the best the club has ever had. The going will be good and betting will be win and place. The card is as follows: — 11.52— CHHISTCHUKCHEIUNT CUP STEEPLE-

Hunting form is sometimes tricky, but the ravourites are likely to be' Kelly the Crow and Gienmure. 12.27— LAWFORD HACK AND BUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE, of £l3O. About two miles and a-half. _ „

Tangled is being "written up” in the south on account of the good schooling effort during the week, but while he must have an excellent chance he cannot be regarded as a "certainty.” The southern form of Black Banner and Shillelagh Wood is worth consideration, and so is the Trentnam display of Arctic Star. Arctic Star is sure to improve. The best hacked may be Arctic Star, Tangled, and Shillelagh Wood. 1.12— MAIDEN STAKES, of £lOO. Six furlongs.

The maiden field possesses all the possibilities for a surprise. Public form points to Cocksure, Happy Night, Aalahtua, and Screamer, while Mother-In-Law and Rockingham have to be considered on their recent form at Trentham. The best backed may be Happy Night, Mother-in-Law, and Rockingham. 1.52— HOMED,I STEEPLECHASE, of £2OO 'Tj.vo miles and a half.

The field is wholly composed of National horses, so the contest will be particularly interesting. Form is well established and backers may prefer the prospects ...of Tudor, Noeturnus, and.. Vai- ■ peen. 2 "cAMLA HACK HANDICAP, of £l2O. About six furlongs.

Southern form points to Palmyra and Short Circuit. Of the northerners, Mittie, Liane and Le Toqtiet must have chances. The best backed may be Palmyra, Le Toquet, and Liane. 3.12— LONGBEACH HURDLES HANDICAP, of £l5O One mileand three-quarters.

Another very interesting contest is promised in the. Longbeach Hurdles. Of the National candidates Collision, High Quality, or Cottingham might be the favourites, with the odds on rhe last-named. Red Sun, Ethiop, and Journet should all run well, and Golden Lap has to be considered. Most money may come for Ethiop, Cottingham and High Quality. S ' J "IJRABAZON HANDICAP, of £l3O. Seven furlongs.

Arnbon < m ■ »n oom. • • Betting is sure to take a wl(le ran " e in the Brabazon Handicap, and the re- ; suit might be tricky. The favourites may be Trench Fight, Bay Duke, and Dictate. KENNELS HACK HANDICAP, of £l2O One mile.
