IN COMPLETE CONTROL OF PEKING Japanese Forces TIENTSIN ARTILLERY DUEL (Received July 31, 1 a.m.) Peking, July 30. The Japanese completely control Peking. At Tientsin they are at present mopping up the outskirts and have captured Tientsin’s port at the mouth of tho River Haiho. Chinese troops are reported to have attacked th e Japanese concession at Tientsin, where there was an artillery duel lasting some hours. A Japanese statement says that, in consequence of previous attacks. Japanese forces had no choice but to bomb Tientsin in selfdefence. Casualties in the actual fighting are estimated at 309 Japanese, and 1200 Chinese.
