Wellington Beaten By Auckland An interprovincial table tennis match between Auckland and ■Wellington, played in Auckland, resulted in a win for Auckland by 13 games to six. The contest wa,s keenly fought, but the predominance of players using the modern tennis style was a factor in Auckland’s win. 'Boniface, Wellington, and Boys, Auckland, were outstanding. Boniface. in defeating the New Zealand champion. Cantlay, played a clever game, using his forehand drive strongly. Boys played with more restraint than usual and had consequently much greater control over his shots. Miss Dove. Auckland, and Miss Sturrock, Wellington, were prominent among tlic women. All the Auckland women won their singles, but in the. doubles the fast, backhand drive of Miss Sturrock was the deciding factor in Wellington’s narrow win. The detailed scores were as follows, Auckland players taking precedence : — Women's section : Miss Dove beat Miss Sturrock, 21-15, 22-20; Miss ’Wilkinson beat. Miss Wareham. 21-12, 18-21, 21-11; Miss Bond beat Miss Croxton, 21-10, 2118; Miss- Tanfield beat Miss Barker, 2110, 21-10; Misses Dove and Bond lost to Misses Sturrock and Croxton. 10-21, 2118, 10-21 ; Misses Tiinfield and ’Wilkinson beat Misses Warehani and Barker, 21-10, 21- „ . Men’s section: Cantlay lost to Boutface. 21-17, 10-21, 0-21 ; Munns lost to Burke 16-21. 21-17. 22-24; Boys beat Bell, 21-16, 21-16; Cheal beat Pyle, 2119, 21-16; Baton beat Kennedy, 21-16, 22- Pugh lost to Maefarlane, 16-21, 21-15, 15-21; Cantlay and Boys beat Boniface and Burke, 21-17, 21-23, 21-12; Munns and Pugh lost to Bell and Pyle. 13-21, 17-21 : Cheal and Paton beat Kennedy and Maefarlane, 19-21, 21-IS, 2111. Combined doubles: Boys and Miss Dove beat Kennedy and Miss Sturrock, 2.1-18, 21-13; Cantlay and Miss Bond beat. I Burke and Miss Warehnm. 21-11, 21-18; Cheal and Miss Wilkinson lost to Mncfarlane ami Miss Croxton. 21-10. 15-21, 16-21 : Paton and Miss Tanfield bent Boniface and Miss Parker, 21-11, 21-11.
