College Gymnasium Equipment
Sir, —I read with interest the paragraph in your “News in Brief” to the effect that £5O had been voted for gymnasium equipment at the Wellington Boys’ College. I uotieed further that the motion by Mr. W. B. Fitchett that punch-balls and medicine balls be purchased for the use of the first NV was defeated. It seems to me an extraordinary thing that iu an institution of the standard of Wellington College iu training and educating some 700 boys, there should be any haggling over the question of gymnastic material. When I was at college under the late Mr. J. P. Firth, the gymnasium was a very important part of the school curriculum, and I am sorry to hear that this side of the school is apparently being neglected. The Old Boys’ Association was recently bequeathed a large sum. and I think it would be a good idea if this association devoted a fair sum to thoroughly equipping the gymnasium.— I am, etc.. OLD BOY.
