Reception By Traffic Officers A reception to the AA’ellington city engineer, Mr. K. E. Luke, who recently returned from Australia, was given by the officers of tiie traffic department last night. The mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, presided, and expressed bis pleasure at being present at the first social gathering arranged by the traffic officers of the city. He referred to the valuable work they bad done in the way of charity organisation in the past, and congratulated them on their having achieved something that was of social value to themselves. He spoke of the work Mr. Luke had done for the city, and assured the gathering that he had every reason to expect that Air. Luke’s tour would prove of service to the city as well as to Air. Luke himself. An interesting talk on his experiences in Australia was given by Air. Luke. Air. L. S. Drake, chief traffic inspector, thanked Mr. Luke for his address, ;md also welcomed him back to AVellington on behalf of the department. Among those present were Mr. E. P. Norman, town clerk. Mr. Al. Cable, general manager of the trainways department. Mr. F. AV. McCoiirtie, assistant chief traffic inspector. Mr. J. Giddens. sub-station superintendent of the electricity department, and several other city corporation officials.
