DEPARTMENTAL RUGBY

Lands.and Survey Too Strong For Treasury In the annual Rugby match between teams representing the Lands and Survey Department aud the Treasury Department on Kelburn Park yesterday afternoon, Lands and Survey proved too strong all round and scored a convincing victory by 19 points to 3, Marchbank proved a good hooker for the winners and gave Lindsay, the half-back, the ball from almost every set scrum. O'Sullivan and Royal worked nicely together at fiveeighths and 'McCrae, Eville and Hermans showed pace in the three-quarter line. Taylor was responsible for a lot of good defensive work at full-back. The teamk were:— Lands aud Survey: Taylor; McCrae, Eville, Hermans; O’Sullivan, Royal; Lindsay; Caution, Clendon, Balfour, Johnston, Brodie. Marchbank, Wills, Kelly. Treasury : Mead ; Ferry, Lang, Johnston ; Mark, Baruett; Muir; Irvine, Rogers, Code, Hart, Andrews, Cole, Tizard, Bell. Though they had a strong northerly wind behind them iu the first spell, Lands and Survey failed to make the best use of it and the Treasury fifteen played up well. After about a quarter of an hour'g play, Lands aud Survey attacked strongly and McCrae was awarded a penalty try for obstruction. Balfour made a good effort: to\ convert the try. Treasury were playing well with the wind against them and were soon rewarded with a try by Johnston, which lie hiingelf failed to convert. Shortly before tbe interval Wills scored for Lands and Survey, Balfour failing t.o add tlie extra points. Lauds and Survey played better against the wind than they had done with it. With forwards and backs going well, they had all the better of the exchanges and added 13 points iu the second spell. Eville went over under the posts, for Balfour to .goal. A little later Royal forced his way over the line for a try, which Balfour failed to convert. Just on time Allen potted a neat goal just after the whistle had gone for a knock-on. In the dying stages’ McCrae scored his second fry, which Balfour improved, anl a spirited game ended with the scores standing: Lands and Survey 19 Treasury ; 3 A eurtaimraiser between the second fifteens of .lie departments was won by Lands und Survey by 11 points to nil. AlletL Humphries aud Prendergast scored tries. Prendergast eouvertiug one of them.
